IN A profession notoriously resilient to hard times, online date sites threaten to do what the global financial crisis could not – send the sex services industry broke.
The $1.2 billion industry has bled $74 million over the past financial year, with brothels taking the hardest hit. In contrast, the market for exotic dancers and strippers, albeit starting from a small base, has steadily grown.

”It’s not the most precise science compared to other industries,” said Mr Butler, who conceded the project was probably the most unusual he has tackled in his economics career.

Such claims as having more than 4 million members were patently ridiculous, Mr Butler said, but they were clearly having an impact on the traditional dating industry’s trade.
The Adult Business Association of NSW’s spokesman, Chris Seage, said he was surprised the drop in revenue had been only 6 per cent in the past year.
”Brothels aren’t the goldmine they used to be 10 or 20 years ago,” he said. ”The regular punters aren’t coming as often. Rather than weekly, they’re coming fortnightly or monthly and they’re also cutting down on time, opting for the half-hour instead of the full hour.”
Mr Seage said the industry as a whole had not identified the growing popularity of casual dating websites as a problem.
”But I believe it is having an effect on trading. It’s a lot cheaper to hook on a matchmaker free swingers site, pay a much smaller fee and engage in casual dating that way. It’s an emerging issue for the industry.”

But Joshua admits it took some persuading to make him sign up to another TV series. Going in the first time I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Oddly, as I got older the hours got harder but psychologically working on a TV show got easier. “As we all remember, when we are 15 or 18 years of age everything is the most important thing that has happened because, at that point of your life, it actually is. “At 30 everything sort of falls into place so when something goes wrong it’s not a crushing defeat – it’s just another bump in the road. “Given that it’s a lot of work, you want it to be enjoyable and satisfying so who you are working with becomes nearly as important as what you’re working on. “The Fringe beautiful girls had a great track record of being able to keep shows going for a long time. We’ve made mistakes along the way but everything we’ve thrown out are all scientifically accepted ideas. “Writers of almost every hit movie in America in the last few years have introduced this idea of a multi-universe in a number of different ways. Star Trek dealt with it and Terminator dealt with it a little bit. “Maybe it’s my west coast, liberal upbringing but the idea of parallel universes doesn’t really strike me as being too far out there.”
But what really fascinates Joshua is the dynamic between Peter and his father. It’s an odd mixture of love, exasperation, responsibility and respect. As Peter gets more involved in what’s happening, he becomes more connected to his estranged father. He said: “What you see in the beginning is a very vocal desire not to be there. Nearly three out of four Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. The Spring of Tampa Bay, a shelter for abused adults and their children, describe domestic violence as an epidemic, affecting free singles of all communities. Domestic violence is a common issue, more common than many college students and teenagers are often aware of. According to The Spring, domestic violence is the willful intimidation, assault, battery, sexual assault or other abusive behaviors, such as verbal and emotional abuse, that occur within a relationship.
Unfortunately, The University of Tampa is no stranger to the problem of domestic violence. In the past decade, UT has lost two students to acts of violence at the hands of people who should have cared for them. In 2000, 19 year-old Cara Beth was stabbed to death by her boyfriend in a car in the Tampa General Hospital parking garage. In 2007, 19 year-old Samantha MacQuilliam was found stabbed to death in the Palm Harbor home she rented with her boyfriend.

Alpha Chi Omega’s philanthropy is domestic violence prevention, and between Oct. 5 and 8 the sorority displayed an informational table in the Vaughn Lobby. Sorority members sold purple ribbons and t-shirts, giving all proceeds to The Spring of Tampa Bay. Also on Oct. 8, Alpha Chi Omega hosted a speaker from The Spring who presented information on domestic and teen best dating violence. Sarah Bernstein, president of Alpha Chi Omega, said the sorority started planning these events over the summer when they were contacted by Brock Communications and asked if they would be willing to do something to spread awareness.
Lisa Brock, CEO of the public dating personals relations company Brock Communications, is an adjunct professor at UT and also the vice chairwoman of The Spring’s board of directors. She is also an Alpha Chi Omega alumna. Each year, Brock’s company adopts a charity representing a non-profit organization for free. For the last three years, Brock Communications has represented The Spring. In her advertising campaigns class students solve problems for organizations and work with clients before giving final presentations. This semester, Brock’s class has been helping create a campaign for The Spring.
The Peace It Together campaign has included raising awareness by handing out information in the form of bright purple, orange and yellow brochures and stickers. It’s really hard to get people on campus motivated about service, said Bernstein. So having Brock provide us with a colorful campaign has really helped.
Bernstein said the sorority chapter has been enthusiastic working to inform UT students about domestic violence, especially since every Alpha Chi Omega in the country is also raising awareness this month.
I’m really excited because I think we do things a lot differently than other organizations on this campus, she said. “Our philanthropy affects students; other philanthropies might not hit so close to home. Bernstein said domestic violence is sometimes an issue people take lightly. People don’t realize it occurs in college, she said. I don’t think students realize they can get caught up in these dating personals relationships when they are so young. Brock noticed the sorority’s willfulness to connect with the UT campus. They have been unbelievably engaged, Brock said.They are a motivated bunch of young women.

They don’t understand domestic violence starts with words and disrespect to issues of power and control, she said, adding that young women often don’t recognize name-calling. She also said some mistake domestic violence for protectiveness, believing that when, for example, a significant other tells a person not to wear something or not to do something, it is to look after them.
Brock said that in the past two years at Gasparilla, she has seen appalling behavior. I’ve seen boyfriends push their girlfriends to the ground and girlfriends allowing that behavior,she said.It’s horrifying. She also said it is important for students to know that if they feel they are a victim of domestic violence, they do not need to check into a shelter in order to men seeking to help. The Spring has a 24-hour hotline where victims can seek information and plan exit strategies.
There is definitely, definitely help available, said Brock. UT students should also be aware of the help they can find right here on campus. Designated victim advocates are available through the Victim Advocacy Program 24-hours a day to assist victims of sexual assault, physical assault, domestic violence and students who need assistance coping with issues such as the death of a loved one before men seeking assistance from the counseling center.
Sabrina Griffith, assistant director of Residence Life, is one of three victim advocates at UT. She said that there is a rotation between the three and that they are each assigned a week at a time to be accessible by cell phone. Victim advocates talk to students who feel they have been a victim of violence and help that person advocate for themselves through the university system and through the outside community by letting the student know what services are available to them.
Asked if she has had to respond to many incidents of domestic violence on campus, Griffith said, I can’t say many, but I can say it happens more than it should. She said that she has had to talk to students about violent best dating relationships, but that, unfortunately, domestic violence is something that is not often reported, especially by the victim.
Other events that took place last week on campus included Chalk the Walk, sponsored by the PEACE Volunteer Center. Facts about domestic violence were displayed all throughout campus in colored chalk. Bernstein said it was important for students to know how many people domestic violence can affect. It’s a very dirty little mess,said Brock.A very dirty subject. Domestic violence crosses all socioeconomic statures. It’s not a neat package.

Is it possible for true love and single dating to both bloom between two people of different backgrounds who met only through the Internet?
This is the intriguing premise of “Love On Line (LOL),” a modern comedy starring Vic “Bossing” Sotto and Thai model-VJ Paula Taylor. The film is produced by M-Zet-Octoarts-APT Films and will be shown in theaters on club swapping and Best of this Love On Loive Premise.
In the film, Vic plays Samson whose picture was used by his friend (played by Jose Manalo) in order to meet beautiful dating women through Internet chatting. Paula is Lily who becomes a “cyber” friend to Samson until they eventually agree to meet (“eyeball” in Internet language).
What follows is a rollercoaster ride of events that are spiced with magic, adventure, fantasy and, yes, love in the tradition of almost all of Vic Sotto’s blockbuster movies.

For many black women in America, finding love has become a serious issue.
Census data show that roughly 40 percent of black adult single women in the U.S. have never been married. That’s nearly twice the percentage of white women.
One entrepreneur in Los Angeles is fighting the odds. Her mission: move black women from no man’s land to a diverse dating world.

More than 100 black women pack a small Italian restaurant near West Los Angeles. It’s standing-room only. They’re not there for the food; they’re there for a seminar called “Free Your Mind: The Black Girl’s Guide to Interracial Dating.”
There’s no reason for us to believe we have to be alone. The only thing that’s keeping us from finding someone is that we limit ourselves.

Fleace Weaver, an L.A. socialite and the organizer of the night’s event, got the idea after noticing that many of her black friends had it all — a career, house, independence — but no man.
Weaver is black. She dates men of all colors — black, white, brown — and wants more black women to do the same. “I am an interracial dating lover. All right; I am an equal opportunity lover,” Weaver says. “That means I love who is good to me. I don’t want anybody just because they’re a certain color.”
Some black professional women say it’s harder to find a black man at their same education and income level. You can see the trend on college campuses. According to the Department of Education, in the fall of 2007, 64 percent of black students enrolled in college were women.
But Weaver argues that Mr. Right doesn’t have to be Mr. Black. “There’s no reason for us to believe we have to be alone. The only thing that’s keeping us from finding someone is that we limit ourselves,” Weaver says.
Crossing Racial Lines For dating Love.
Interracial dating is a sensitive issue in the black community. Blacks have a brutal history with race relations; some blacks see dating outside the race as betraying the culture.
Still, more black men are thinking outside the box. According to research from Stanford University, black men are nearly three times more likely than black single women to marry interracially.
If black women are set on “black love only,” Weaver says they may be passing up good men. “Some of you all out here have gotten some signals, and you all missed them. Or you got signals, and you all blew him off because he wasn’t chocolate,” Weaver says. “But we’ve got to get over that — unless you want to be home with chocolate cats.”
Let’s Talk Men
A dozen nonblack men — all of whom date or are married to black women — speak on a panel. They answer questions about crossing the color line. For instance: How do you know if a nonblack guy likes black women?
“If a white guy, Asian guy or Mexican guy — whatever race, irrelevant — likes you and he has skills, then he’s going to ask you out, just like a black man would. If you’re in a social setting and a man comes up to you, he’s interested. That’s it,” says panelist Francisco Dao.
The panel also touches on that other sensitive topic for black women: hair. Are other men OK with the various textures and styles of black woman’s hair? The entire panel agrees: short, long, straight or kinky, it doesn’t matter.
Christopher Rawley is white and is married to a black woman. After his wife burned herself with a curling iron, he told her: “Don’t do this because of what you think I want you to be like. Be you. And you’re beautiful natural. You’re beautiful however you want to feel,” Rawley says.
Weaver also invited a few black men to speak to show that they support this cause — that the program is not to bash them. The group includes Ryeal Simms, a relationship coach who encourages his black female clients to expand their options dating service — but to do it for the right reasons. “Because if you’re going in it thinking that if he’s not African-American, he’s going to treat me better, and I’m going to be really happy regardless, we’re all still men,” Simms says.
Regardless of whom the women choose to date, Weaver hopes they leave the seminar with at least one thought.
“Dating is just dating service site. Men are just men. You know, it’s all the same at the end of the day,” Weaver says.
Weaver is taking the Free Your Mind seminar to Chicago, Atlanta and New York this fall.
